Moving Checklists

Don’t know where to start? A moving checklist is an essential tool for anyone who is planning a move, whether it is across town or across Texas. It helps to keep track of all the details that need to be taken care of, from packing and labeling boxes to making sure the utilities are transferred to the new address. 1 Month Before Moving

Hire a moving company.

R

Schedule your utility (electricity, water, gas, cable/satellite/internet, trash removal) start & stop dates.

R

Notify medical & dental providers and insurance.

R

Notify auto/life insurance and make arrangements for new home/renter insurance policy.

R

Notify banks & credit cards of address change.

R

Notify schools and employment of address change.

R

Change address with mailed or online subscriptions.

R

Complete a change address form with the USPS by filling out this USPS change of address form.

2 Weeks Before Moving

Create a room by room list of items in your home. Throw away or donate anything you do not need or want to move.

Decide which items you will move yourself and which items you will leave to the professional movers.

Schedule a babysitter or petsitter/boarding for your children or pets.

Create an “essentials bag” for each of your family members on the day of the move. Items you should put into your bag include:

  • 2 – 3 sets of clothing
  • Toiletries (toothbrush, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo)
  • Phone and computer chargers
  • Medications
  • Snacks
  • Books, toys and games
  • Electronics
  • Headphones

Moving Day!

It’s moving day and it’s both exhausting and exciting. It helps to have a checklist already done for your so you don’t forget a thing. Make sure you start your day early because you will need more time than you think to coordinate movers, final packing, loading, travel, and unloading.

Plan ahead and have a fully charged phone, an auto phone charger ready, the keys and paperwork to both the old and new places in a safe, convenient place, and some extra cash for food, incidentals, and a tip for the movers.

Wake up early! You’re going to need every minute of this day.

Finish packing your moving day bag of essentials. Make sure to include all your paperwork from the moving company and new apartment, home, or business location.You’ll want to keep that handy.

Make sure your phone is fully charged and with you at all times on moving day.

Double check the utilities are scheduled to be turned off at the place you’re leaving and turned on at the new place.

Drop off kids and pets at the care givers if you haven’t already done this.

Cover the floors and any stair railings with protective coverings.

Pack your food items and clean your refrigerator and freezer.

Are You Properly Licensed and Insured?
Great question! That’s the first one you should ask a moving company so you know they are a legitimate business and your items are protected during the move. Gabe Movers is both licensed and insured.

Do you have experience with my specific type of move?

Gabe Movers has been a local moving company operating in Texas for more than 9 years. We have experience moving anything from a studio apartment to a large warehouse. We have the team and equipment to handle any moving job.

Do you have references?

Is the amount of the estimate the final amount owed?

It could be. There are a few factors that go into estimating the cost of moving. We quote based on the floor level, size, and type of the space you need moved from and go from there. We can provide you with a “not-to-exceed” estimate based on the information provided by the customer. That way we have a little room for last minute add-ons that won’t break the bank.

How long will it take to move?

Gabe Movers will pack & move you and then unload at the new location all in the same day.

Are you a broker or a carrier?

Another great question! We hire and train our own team and have our own equipment to handle your move from start to finish. We do not sub contract your move.

How do I contact Gabe during the move?

Sometimes Gabe is one of the team getting it done! In that case you can ask him directly. If he trusts your move to his team you can always call him directly.

Will there be any other charges not on the estimate?

The written estimate lists everything you’ll be paying for, including packing services, moving supplies, labor charges, mileage, and any other services or fees associated with your move.   

What form of payment do you accept?

Gabe Movers accepts cash, major credit cards, and Zelle.

Do you provide storage?

Gabe Movers does not provide storage, but we can help you arrange for the storage you need.
